What is Voice over IP (VoIP) (also known as Internet or IP telephony)?
Voice over IP is a umbrella term that applies to a set of technologies that allow voice communications to be carried over the Internet and may originate or terminate on the public telephone network.

Is VoIP reliable?
The number one factor in VoIP reliability is the customer's Internet connection. A broadband Internet connection (such as cable Internet or DSL Internet) and there must be sufficient bandwidth (or "speed") available. At minimum, there needs to be about 64kbps upload and download per call in order to be successful and the data transmitted for the call needs to take priority on the Internet connection (achieved by "Quality of Service" (QoS) settings that are available on some routers and modems). The more simultaneous calls a customer needs to support requires more bandwidth. We can provide both automated and real-world testing for customers who are concerned about their Internet connection.

Can I use my existing phone?
In some cases, yes. If you are using a consumer-grade telephone, you can simply purchase an analog telephone adapter that allows you to use it with a VoIP account. Most phones that are used with a legacy analog or digital PBX system will need to be replaced with a new IP telephone.

Must all my equipment be from the same manufacturer?
All of the equipment that we sell is interoperable, regardless of manufacturer. Unlike some of our competitors, we do not sell services or equipment that requires "vendor lock-in".

Can I keep my existing phone number?
In the large majority of situations, yes!
